It is by God’s grace and design that all people are drawn to Him through the outpouring of Christ’s blood. The Church, the people of God, is where this is realized and in the midst of this Church the truths of Christ’s teaching are to be heard. Jesus’ words and ministry, as the chief Shepherd of all souls, is to protect us from the evil one and to hold us close to Him. But if we fail to do so, we become scattered and unable to hear the Shepherd’s voice. As Jesus’ disciples return to Him to report the many great works they were able to accomplish amongst the people He had sent them to, Jesus just listens to them. They marvel at the things they did all in His Name and then Jesus takes them off to a deserted place for a time of refreshment and prayer, in order to prepare them to go out once again. It is through the Sacraments of the Church that we receive, that we too, are refreshed and prepared to go out into the world and face the daily challenges, always knowing that God’s Son, Jesus is walking right beside us and helping us.
