The readings this Sunday speak to us about how to listen for the voice of God in our lives and how God is in our midst in varying ways. Like for Elijah, the Lord wasn’t in the strong and heavy winds or in the earthquake or the fre but appeared in a tiny whispering sound. Jesus afer feeding the crowds goes of to a quiet place to pray and sends His disciples of in a boat across the sea. Strong winds start to toss the boat in the waves and Jesus comes to them walking on the water. The disciples believe Jesus to be a ghost and they become frightened. But Jesus tells them not to be afraid and to have courage. Peter tells Jesus that if it is really You, command me to come to You on the water and so Jesus tells Peter to come. Peter gets out of the boat and starts to walk toward Jesus, but the winds and the waves make him faulter, so Jesus has to reach out and pull him to the boat where they both get in. Aferward the winds stop, and the disciples are again relieved to be with Jesus at their side. This scripture passage reminds us to not be afraid and to have courage, to have the faith we need and not to doubt our Lord whenever Jesus calls us to come to Him. May we always follow the voice of our Lord as He directs our lives.
