Happy Solemnity of Christ the King, King of the Universe!! The Church, since Pope Pius XI instituted this feast in 1925, celebrates this great day on the last Sunday of each liturgical year. This solemnity reminds us that while governments come and go, Christ reigns as King forever. The readings today emphasize the pre-eminence of Christ, through whom and for whom all things were created. Christ is the head of the Church, the frstborn from the dead, the one who kindles in us the fame of hope in God’s mercy. The goal of life in the Church – the sacramental, moral, and spiritual life – is communion with the Triune God, which we realize by being drawn ever more deeply into the life of Christ our King. One of the most important virtues that Christians must ask for is hope, to share eternal life in communion with God and this is only achieved through God’s graces. Thus, hope in Christ is a gif from God and is the engine that pushes us forward in the Christian life. Jesus could have saved Himself from death on the cross, but instead wore the crown of thorns and was nailed to the cross to clearly demonstrate His power of salvation for all is the power of God that comes from Him. May Jesus Christ, our Lord and King bring us all to the glory of the Kingdom! As we celebrate Thanksgiving this week, may we always give thanks to God for all of His abundant gifs and blessings in our lives, for all comes to us from God.
