As the Church returns to a short period of Ordinary Time before the season of Lent, we walk with Jesus as He goes about proclaiming the Kingdom of God to the world. Our own Baptism makes us one with Jesus and thus we too are to go out and proclaim the Kingdom to others through our worship, our words, and our actions. This is what the Psalmist is telling us, “Proclaim His marvelous deeds to all the nations.” The familiar story of the wedding at Cana is the beginning of Jesus’ public ministry. His Mother, Mary, points out that an issue had arisen at the wedding and wanted Jesus to do something about it. Though Jesus says His hour has not yet come, Jesus changes the jars of water into wine that is better than that which was first served to the guests. Mary told the servers at the wedding to, “Do whatever He tells you.” Mary is saying these words to us as well, for we are to listen to what Jesus tells us and do whatever He asks of us in this life. May we have the courage and receive the graces we need to then do what Jesus asks of us!
