A new liturgical season begins with the First Sunday of Advent. The Advent season has a two-fold character, for it is a time of preparation for the Solemnities of Christmas, in which the first Coming of the Son of God to humanity is remembered, and likewise a time when, by remembrance of this, minds and hearts are led to look forward to Christ’s second Coming at the end of time. The readings reflect this two-fold aspect of this beautiful season, the grace and peace God gives to us in His Son, Jesus Christ from His introduction into this world to when He returns. Knowing we are all the work of God’s hands, as He has formed us and given us life, then we are to live for Him in all that we do in order to be prepared for His Second coming. God is faithful to His promises to each of us and we are called to be faithful to Him, to be in fellowship with Jesus Christ. We need to be watchful and alert as Jesus tells us, may He not find us ready! This Advent may the words of the Psalmist be our prayer: “Lord, make us turn to You; let us see Your face and we shall be saved.” May this Advent season be a time of great grace for each of you, as we prepare.
