The second Sunday of Lent presents to us Jesus’ transfguration to ponder. What is this scene really all about, one may ask? But Jesus is desiring to show His closest disciples a brief glimpse of the glory of God. Jesus does this by having a conversation with Moses and Elijah, the two people of old that represent the law and the prophets. They discussed the pending death and resurrection of Jesus, while at the same time made it clear that God can do anything, having these two men talking with Jesus who had long died. Peter in his excitement and not fully understanding what is taking place wants to build tents so that the three men could continue to stay with them. In the midst of it all, God once again speaks to those on the mountain reminding all that Jesus is His chosen Son, and to listen to Him. God made a promise and covenant with Abram, that his descendants would be many and the land would be theirs for all times, if they continue to listen to God and follow His instructions and design for their lives. Through Christ’s death and resurrection, we more closely follow Jesus into to the glory of heaven, where He will change our lowly body to conform with His glorious body. The Psalmist is correct in saying, “The Lord is my light and my salvation,” may we live in that light all the days of our life and then be brought into that salvation with Jesus, our Lord.
