King Saul in his fiery and jealousy regarding David sets out to kill David. Yet Saul is delivered into the hands of David as Saul and his soldiers were all asleep. Instead of outright killing King Saul, David was merciful and let him live. David then shows this mercy to Saul by allowing him and his soldiers to see that David could have had the opportunity to kill the King but did not. David is living by God’s rules, the very things Jesus is teaching to His disciples. That we all are to love our enemies, to do good to those who hate us, to bless those who curse us, and to pray for those who mistreat us. In other words, to be merciful like Jesus and David. That if we are judging others then we too shall expect to be judged by people. The whole basis of Jesus’ teaching is, that we treat others the way in which we would like to be treated. As humans this can be difficult at times, but since we are also made in the likeness of God then by the grace of the Holy Spirit in our lives, we too can be more Christ-like each and every day. Let us strive to be holy by imitating Jesus!
