As the Church moves back into a short period of Ordinary Time in her liturgical calendar, we encounter John the Baptist proclaiming to two of his disciples as Jesus walks by, “Behold the Lamb of God!” We hear these very words at every Mass just before we are to receive our Lord in the Holy Eucharist. Like the disciples who turn and follow Jesus, He calls us to a life of service to the Lord and gratitude for the gifts and blessings. Andrew runs to his brother, Peter to proclaim that they have found the Messiah, the Holy One of God and Peter goes to encounter Christ for himself. Like Samuel in the first reading today, the Lord God calls out to us. It is through our personal encounter in receiving our Lord in the Eucharist that we have the courage to respond like Samuel, “Here I am Lord; I come to do Your will.” May we be grateful that we have been made temples of the Holy Spirit in order to do the will of the Father.
