Jesus provides a miracle for the man in the Gospel by touching his ears and mouth and the man then is able to hear and speak. The very actions of Jesus are done as well during a baptism of a baby or child, as the priest or deacon prays a special prayer as he touched the child’s ears and mouth, making them to be open to hearing God’s Word and proclaiming the faith. The people were astonished by the actions of Jesus, even though He has taught them that faith in God makes all things possible. This is what we heard in the reading from the Prophet Isaiah, the great workings of God in the midst of His people; the blind see, the deaf hear, the lame leap, the mute sing, streams burst forth in a desert, burning sands become a pool, and the thirsty ground turns into springs of water. Again, God can do all things!! May you all have a safe and enjoyable Labor Day weekend. The Bishop, priests and deacons of the Diocese will be at the annual Fall Clergy conference this week for a time of education. We will be praying for all of you, so please pray for us.
