The reading from the Book of Wisdom reminds us that we are made in the image and likeness of God and that the evil one is always lurking to try and take us away from God. But because God has written His love and law into our hearts, we can be assured that if we stay close to God in our faith, then He will care for us. That as Jesus became poor for our sake, He actually becomes rich in His sharing of Himself with us. Thus, we too, become rich when we allow Jesus to be present to us and we imitate His acts of kindness and love of neighbor. Jesus through His healing power that is shown to us in today’s Gospel, helps us to know that He can do all things, raise people from the dead and cure their illnesses. Just so, Jesus can do so much for each of us and then we can say as the Psalmist says, “I will praise you, Lord, for you have rescued me.” Peace, Fr. Fred
