The question at the end of today’s frst reading states: Is the Lord in our midst or not? This is a great question to ponder during our Lenten journey. The people are rebelling against Moses for bringing them out into the desert, wondering if it was to only have them die of thirst. Moses seeks God’s intervention for His people and God through Moses brings forth an abundance of water from the rock in the desert, so that no one would ever thirst. Jesus encounters the Samaritan woman at the well, who has come to get water, but Jesus sees that she is thirsting for more than water, she is thirsting for a new life. Jesus flls the foreign woman with lifegiving water, His gif of the Holy Spirit, to renew her and give her courage to share with others the gif she received. Many of the Samaritans came to believe in Jesus because of what this woman encountered and found coming forth from Jesus. God out of His great love for us, pours out hope into our hearts through the gif of the Holy Spirit. God proves his love for us in that while we were and are still sinners He allowed Jesus to die for us. Let God’s lifegiving water, the Holy Spirit, be poured out upon us each day, helping us to follow Jesus and become more like Him every day for He is always with us.
