As the Church celebrates this fnal Sunday of Lent before Palm Sunday and Holy Week begins, we are reminded by the readings of the promise of life with Jesus forever. Jesus goes to Bethany to His friends, Mary and Martha’s house for He had been told that His friend Lazarus had died. He goes to console the women but also to assist them in coming to believe in God's goodness, mercy, power and love. Jesus raises Lazarus from the dead, by calling him forth from the tomb he had been in for three days, symbolizing His own three days in the tomb afer His crucifxion. Jesus’ action brings Mary and Martha to a deeper understanding and belief in who Jesus really is, but it also leads the other people of the village to come and believe in Jesus as well. God, through His Son, Jesus, desires us to die to our sins and be raised to a newness of life with Him. Let us allow the great Spirit of God to be poured out upon us, so that we can indeed become more Christlike in our daily lives, because with the Lord there is mercy and fullness of redemption. Find time in your fnal days of Lent to get to confession so that you may experience that love and mercy of God through the forgiveness of your sins.
