Jesus continues to teach His disciples about His pending suffering and death, but has now included that He would also rise again afterward. Once again the disciples do not understand but are afraid to question Jesus. Instead, as they are walking along, they are discussing amongst themselves of who is the greatest. Jesus makes this another teaching moment for the disciples and explains to them that if any of them wants to be first, then that person must become the servant for the others. This also is the way that we heard in the second reading from James, that jealousy and selfish ambition will bring about disorder and problems among the people unless we learn from the wisdom of God and follow His design. Let us put on Christ daily, tending to the needs of our brothers and sisters and praying and asking God rightly for the guidance we need to do so.
