We hear ofen in the Scripture readings during the Easter season about how the Church is growing, as the apostles bring forth more disciples who have come to believe that Jesus was crucifed and died, but has been raised up from the dead. The needs of the people are also growing and so more men were being called forth to lead and today’s frst reading describes how this takes place. This reading is ofen used at the ordination of deacons, for this is the need that was being met by the outpouring of the Holy Spirit upon them to carry out the work that was necessary for the growing number of Church members. More and more are becoming obedient to the faith and trusting that Jesus is the sure cornerstone that was originally rejected. Jesus makes it quite clear that He is the way, the truth, and the life and no one can come to the Father except through Him. This is why He tells us to not have our hearts be troubled but simply have faith in God and Jesus His Son. That Jesus will indeed prepare a place for each of us in the eternal glory of heaven and then come back and take us to Himself. Believing in this gives us all great hope, so let us remain close to Jesus.
