Today’s Gospel is Matthew’s recounting of the Transfguration of Jesus before Peter, James and John on the mountain. Jesus has taken these chosen disciples away from the rest to have them experience something more regarding the sufering, death and resurrection of Jesus. Jesus shows them that what will be happening to Him has been foretold by Moses and Elijah of the Old Testament and connects the present age to ages of old and then into the future. The brilliance of how Jesus becomes before their eyes, radiates the brilliance of heaven. Then fnally the voice from the cloud confrms who Jesus is; the Beloved Son, who we are to listen to. If we listen to God as Abram did and have the same confdence in what God is asking of us, we are well on the way to the glory of heaven. If we, as St. Paul states, bear our share of the hardships for the gospel with God’s strength, it leads us to a life of holiness. This is what I hope we all are striving for this Lenten season, to grow in holiness and open our hearts to whatever God may be leading each of us too. May Jesus transform us to more like Him each day!
