The Canaanite woman who calls after Jesus and His disciples is looking for Jesus to do something for her, cure her daughter. Being a foreigner to Jesus and His disciples she may have heard of the miracles and healing that Jesus had been doing as He traveled around. So when she saw that Jesus was passing through she sought Him out. We know Jesus was sent for the salvation of all people who are open to Him and His teaching, so the woman felt she could maybe find favor with Him, to get Him to heal her daughter. The woman’s response to Jesus proved her to be worthy and having faith and thus Jesus does grant her request and her daughter was healed. This is the mercy St. Paul speaks of in his letter to the Romans. May we seek out this mercy of God in our own lives and be healed in whatever way we may need it.
