In the frst reading, Abraham and Sarah show BAPTISM generous hospitality to their visitors from the Lord and then learn that they would be rewarded for their kindness with the birth of a son. How they responded to the situation was with justice and kindness, the very same way in which each of us is called to do for others in need. The Gospel is the familiar story of Jesus visiting His friends Martha and Mary. Martha gets busy with works of hospitality and waiting on Jesus, and she becomes anxious because of the work. Meanwhile, Mary reclines on the foor at the feet of Jesus and just listens to what Jesus wants to tell her, which is what frustrated Martha. Both women were doing something good for Jesus, one waiting on Him while the other took time to just listen to Him. The lesson here is that we have to open our ears and hearts to the words of Jesus that He speaks to us, they then lead us to making a response and that is doing good works in the name of Jesus. May we hear the voice of Jesus and then put them into action by caring for those in need.
