The Prophet Jeremiah reminds us of the great power of God, that He knew each of us before we were even formed in the womb, that God has dedicated us to being His instruments and has sent us out into the world to share the Good News of the Kingdom. When we strive for the greatest spiritual gifts from God, we are given all that we need to do His Will. That the faith and the hope and the love of God fills us and makes us capable, especially if we allow God’s great love to penetrate our hearts. The people that Jesus was teaching in the synagogue spoke highly of Him and were amazed at the words He spoke to them. But their hearts were not touched and filled with the love Jesus was proclaiming for they quickly turned against Jesus and drove Him out of their town. Why, one, may ask? It is because the words of truth that Jesus spoke to them, showed their hardness of heart and their sinfulness. That they were not living the gift of God’s love in the ways they did not care for their neighbor. Jesus speaks these truths to us in our daily lives and instead of getting angry or upset and turning away from Jesus, we should embrace these words and become aware of how God is desiring to change us through the great gift of His love.
