The Church’s liturgical calendar returns to the longer period of Ordinary Time, which lasts until Advent. During this time, we walk with Jesus from village and place as He goes about proclaiming the Kingdom of God and teaching the people and us through parables and by His actions. Today Jesus uses the mustard seed to compare the Kingdom of God. Something so very small is actually so much larger than we could imagine. And like the mustard seed, the beginnings of our faith life starts out quite small, but through study, prayer, and receiving the Sacraments our faith grows into something much greater. For as St. Paul states, “we walk by faith, not by sight” because the pilgrimage to heaven is a walk of faith, as we cannot image the greatness and the glory of the Kingdom of God. Jesus helps us to understand in our limited ways through His teachings. May we hold close to all He speaks to us through the Sacred Scriptures and the Church each day of our life here on earth.
